USA | LGBT: More bad news, some good.

Here are several news articles I read about today. Thankfully, it's not all bad news for LGBT's in the US.

This article is from the 'Human Rights Watch' website:

‘Hall of Shame’ Exposes Dangers of High-Level Homophobia.

"Pope Benedict XVI, US President George W. Bush and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have undermined human rights by actively promoting prejudice against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, Human Rights Watch said today in its annual “hall of shame” to mark the International Day Against Homophobia..." - Fr: hrw.org

Two sentenced in gay teen attack. - "Two young people have been sentenced in the brutal kidnapping and beating of a gay teenage boy after a July 2006 house party in US New Mexico..." - Fr: uk.gay.com.

Poll: Most in U.S. support hate crimes bill. "A new Gallup poll indicates that a majority of Americans support the hate-crimes bill now before Congress." - Fr: gay.com.

You can read the legislation itself at the URL below.

Note: The URL to the latest legislation revision expires after a short amount of time. So after loading the URL, click on the listing of number three [# 3] or number four [# 4] ; number four is the latest revision, which is the one before Congress I believe. Number three was passed by the House.

Bill Number H.R.1592 for the 110th Congress

I'm currently writing an article about HR 1592, and it's opponents who promote propaganda saying it will 'destroy freedom of speech' and other stuff. It's not done yet, but I'll have it posted up soon... Check back.

Probe widens in murders of gay Florida men. "A criminal complaint accusing two men of the torture and killing of two gay men in Tampa, Fla., has breathed new life into the mysterious disappearances of several other gay men in two states over a 17-year period." - Fr: gay.com

I found this article a good read and quite disconcerting. Freedom from religious persecution is supposed to work both ways; theoretically.

Students sue to protect anti-gay speech. "Three Pennsylvania high schoolers have sued the Downington Area School District after it prevented them from expressing their views on the "sinful nature and harmful effects of homosexuality." - Fr: gay.com

ExxonMobil non-bias policy vote fails
. "The largest U.S. oil company, ExxonMobil Corporation, still refuses to add sexual orientation and gender identity to its non-discrimination policy, despite growing shareholder opposition.." - Fr: gay.com

Only slightly unrelated to the topic, this article is quite interesting. Although the situation is very serious, I found the 'mug shots' to be somewhat humorous.

Framed! | Arizona cops help a belligerent arrestee pose for his mug shot. [...McCaffrey threatened to kill a female acquaintance and acknowledged calling one of the woman's boys "a 'girl' and 'faggot' because he acts like one"...] - Fr: thesmokinggun.com
